27 Aug, 2007 New dates have been added to our calender. In particular, note that (for the first time in recent memory) our Fall Open Houses
will both occur on December Sundays. This is to accomodate the Christmas Train Show that falls this year on the last weekend of November.
We have also been making a lot of updates to our N Scale layout. I hope to gets some photos of these changes uploaded to the web site in the near future (sorry the photos are not there yet.
16 Jan, 2007 I have updated the photos of our Fall 2006 Open House prizes, and performed the mandatory mass copyright update.
30 Mar, 2006 Our fall and our winter open house season is over, and it was a roaring success. Thank you all for coming out and supporting us. As you may appreciate, during the our show season, construction halts, everything gets cleaned up ready for you, the public, to visit. After a number of months we are ready to get the saws, and soldering irons back out. But before we start, we hosted a couple of Scout groups. We had local Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers visit us in the last few weeks.
A good time was had by all. In this photo, SMR president Bill Crich receives a thank you plaque from Scouter Wayne Kelusky from the 1st Cliffside Scout troup.

Thanks for coming...

After a very hot summer in Toronto, we are getting back to work. The Webmaster has been very busy personally this year, and has not had any chance to maintain the site since March.
It is time to get ready for our fall open houses. We hope to see you all.

Just under 2 weeks ago we held our Winter Open Houses. While the first Sunday was relatively quiet, on the second Sunday we had another fantastic turnout. This is again thanks to excellent exposure to the Scarborough Mirror, the Toronto Sun, and Toronto Star. This appears to be a trend:. In the Fall, avoid the crowds. Visit us on the first Sunday!
The lucky winners of our Open House Draws are now immortalized on the Web.Click here to see the
winners. Congratulations from all of us at SMR, and thanks out to all who visited us.
7 Dec, 2004 We are recovering from our Fall Open Houses. What a fantastic success!!! Thanks to excellent exposure in the Scarborough Mirror, the Toronto Sun, the Toronto Star, and Bluffs Monitor, we had two of our best open houses ever. We hope that everyone who came enjoyed themselves, and we hope to see you all again in the Winter, or next Fall.
The members have been energized by the open house, and we are buzzing with new activity.
5, Nov 2004,
Well the WebMaster has to apologize. I have had DCC pictures for a while, but I have been too busy to update the site until now. They are now on the site. We hope you enjoy them.
30, Sept, 2004 The biggest news in the last decade at the club must be the decision to convert the HO layout to Digital Command Control (DCC).
The guys have been extremely busy in the basement rewirely the entire layout. We are all crossing our fingers that everything will be ready for the next open house. We are expecting photos any day now.

Finally, as you have long been waiting for, the website now have lots of pictures from our HO Layout and HO Modules. Here is an example:

The N scale layout has recently seen the additon of signal lights. These scratch-built lights are truly a wonder to see. While they are awaiting the installation of block detection circuits, they look wonderful:

27 Dec 2003 Due to a number of emails received, we have added a new Membership page that describes the benefits and priveledges of becoming a member of the Scarborough Model Railroaders.
Also, for our club members, we have added a page for Members Only. You will be challenged for a password. This will be given out only by the webmaster via email to registered members.

Our Fall season Open Houses have come, and gone. To everyone who came out to see the club - thank you for your support. To our old friends who for one reason or another, we are sorry that you couldn't make it to the open houses.
We had usual mix of the young, who were amazed to see so many trains running, and the young at heart: their parents and grandparents (many with dreams of putting together smaller layouts in the basement with, or for, their children or grand children.
The "Virtual Cab Ride" was a big success. With 2 television monitors running, and a miniature camera mounted on the front of an N-scale train, attendees were treated to a view from "within the cab". The members have discovered one downside to the ride - now there are demands to scenic the insides of our tunnels.
You may have noticed (but probably didn't) a change to our meeting room; we significantly reorganized the kitchen area. This gives us considerably more room for our meetings, and a small amount of extra room during our open houses.
A major endeavour taken on by the N-scale club was the addition of new florescent lights over the scenicked areas of the layout. These were literally finished at the eleventh hour - the night before the first open house. We will be adding more lights (changing the wiring a bit), and adding a facia so the lights will not be shining into visitor's eyes, yet fully illuminating the layout.
Another addition that will appear for our next show will be operating signal towers. The towers, and their tiny LEDs are almost completed. Next we have to put together the circuit boards that will drive them. One prototype has been built - now we need to mass produce them (well at least 10-20 of them).
On the HO Scale Layout we have been installing signalling systems this past year,
and replacing our card-based car forwarding system with one based upon on ShipIt software.
The HO layout also recently hosted a 7 hour operating session for a Operations
Special Interest Group of the NMRA during the 2003
NMRA convention in Toronto.
We have captured many excellent photos of the HO layout - unfortunately they haven't made it the web site yet due to a technical difficulty. Look for them soon. If you saw our setups at either the Hobby Show, or the Christmas Model Train show, you may have seen our video. The new HO pictures were features on the video. The video also contain "Cab Rides" from both the N-scale and HO-scale layouts.
